Cleaning
Teeth Cleaning
“Cleaning teeth” refers to the removal of stain, bacteria, biofilm and calculus from enamel. Basically any “dirt” that keeps a tooth from being in its clean and natural state. It’s important to note that every person’s appropriate time for “teeth cleaning” depends solely on the following factors, diet, lifestyle, personal self care, health conditions, systemic diseases, tooth position, genetics, oral habits, etc. As Dental Hygienists our role is to determine the length of time it will take to effectively remove any factors that could potentially cause dental disease (tooth decay & gum disease). For an adult this time ranges from 30-90 minutes. But don’t worry, our goal is to teach you the correct tools to save you time and money in the long run
Our Teeth Cleaning Methods
We welcomed this new technology summer for 2023 and haven’t looked back. GBT is a game changer in dental hygiene. Tools that allow a much gentler option for cleaning teeth. Learn more about it in more detail HERE
It’s as old as time- Hand scaling is a skill and an art form.
Our dental hygienists take great pride in their ability to safely and effectively use tools shaped precisely to adapt around the structures of your teeth and gums. We use a wide variety of tools to ensure the “right fit” for your mouth. Some clients prefer this method of “cleaning” for their entire visit, and that’s OK with us. We want each client to feel comfortable expressing their desires and comfort level:)
Root Cleaning
“Root cleaning” refers to cleaning the root surface of a tooth that is either exposed in the mouth due to receding gums or under the gums causing gum disease. Sounds painful right? And it can be. We make every effort to ensure your comfort during any service at NDH. There are a variety of anesthetics that can be applied to the tissues, we also offer laser desensitizing. Root cleaning will be recommended after your Dental Hygienist has completed a thorough assessment of your teeth and gums.
Our Unique Holistic Services
Karyn Moore (owner of NDH), has been researching oral pH for 15 years. She’s designed a simple way to test your saliva at home and has multiple resources for both self-learning and in-office recommendations to help you along the way. The ultimate goal is to create an oral cavity with a pH (potential hydrogen) of 8.0. Ideally through diet, exercise, hydration, quality sleep and mindfulness. Oral products may be suggested to help achieve this goal quicker, especially if your dental hygienist feels as though your oral health may be impacting your overall well-being.
Oral DNA is used to assess 11 different stains of bacteria ranging from high to low risk. These bacteria have been scientifically proven to be contributing factors in the following medical conditions; heart disease, respiratory disease, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, dementia and Alzheimers, autoimmune diseases and so much more.
Our team collects your saliva samples and sends them to a lab in the US. The sample is assessed by a team of doctors. The results are sent back to our office. Treatment is recommended by Oral DNA to help reduce/destroy the cultures found in the saliva samples (in your body).
Your dental hygienist will have a discussion with you and make in-office (and home) treatment modifications. It’s best to plan a time to re-evaluate the outcome of the treatment by completing a re-test of the saliva test at a later date.
The NDH team encourages healthy food options as it relates to oral and overall health. We help clients with nutrition struggles and assist with alternative options to facilitate a healthy and happy body. Our goal is to help clients live healthier lifestyles to reduce the impact of poor eating on the organs and tissues
Nutritional Microscopy takes a deeper look into the function of your red blood cells, white blood cells and blood plasma. The goal is to encourage clients through visual stimulation and education. This in-depth look into the cellular health of our clients helps correct possible nutritional obstacles and promotes a body that can self-heal and repair. Some of the conditions seen through live/dry blood microscopy are adrenal distress, systemic stress, mineral stress, lymphatic stress, reproductive imbalances, chronic/acute inflammation, poor immune function, bowel/gut imbalances, and so much more. We use nutrition as a method to heal 🙂
Minerals and vitamins may be suggested by your dental hygienist if you’re showing signs of tooth decay, periodontal disease, oral lesions, or imbalances in your saliva pH. For your convenience we have a selection of resources available onsite. We try hard to research quality and organic brands with the BEST ingredients.
Ozone is a form of oxygen. As a strong oxidant, ozone is a type of natural sanitizer that effectively oxidizes (decomposes) organic matter. Unlike chemical disinfectants, it causes no negative side effects, nor is it corrosive. Ozone is an environmentally friendly sanitizer that re-forms into oxygen molecules after the sanitization process.
Ozone is very useful for industries that require high hygienic safety and sanitization standards, such as food safety, commercial laundry, healthcare, water treatment industries and more.
Made quickly and conveniently by our support staff at NDH. The next generation in disinfection.
Our hygienists use OZONE in our instruments to flush away bacteria/biofilm living on the tooth structure and along the gum tissue. The results are amazing!! Bye Bye Biofilm.

Laser Bacteria Reduction
Lasers in dentistry have been around for quite some time and continue to evolve into a therapeutic and pain free way to treat inflammation and gum disease. The quick and easy explanation is “red light therapy for your gums”. The small fiber optic tip luminates red energy and breaks down the cell wall of pathogens. How does the light know which bacteria are good or bad? It doesn’t ha ha. The light penetrates damaged and unoxidized tissue, leaving healthy and oxidized tissue to heal and repair. Need more of an explanation, no problem check out www.zolartek.com
Cold Sores/Canker Sores
Lasers are effective in reducing the occurrence of outbreaks, the length of time a sore is present or stop them from surfacing (if caught soon enough). If you’re suffering with continuous outbreaks of cold sores, we suggest Lysine as an oral supplement daily.

At NDH we are supportive and respectful of our clients’ right to choose their services. That’s why we have several fluoride-free options to mineralize and maintain the health of teeth and gums for both children and adults.
Whitenings
We’ve been using “Wicked White” at NDH since the beginning.
It’s been a safe and effective way to whiten the tooth structure. Owner, Karyn Moore has created specific programs for whitening at NDH to help clients achieve the results they’re looking for in a timely manner.
We use a combination of Hydrogen and Carbomide Peroxide with a blue light to speed the reaction of peroxide. The product is neutral based which helps with overall sensitivity and comfort.
For lasting results regular maintenance is suggested and encouraged.

Additional Oral Health Services and Add Ons
Periodontium (Periodontal) refers to disease of the connective tissue surrounding the teeth. It includes the bone, gums, lining and root of the teeth. Treatment options would be recommended by your Dental Hygienists after a thorough assessment has been completed. Sessions would be based on the time required to remove all barriers influencing the poor condition of the affected areas.
Stages of Periodontal Disease are as follows Stage I, Stage II, Stage III, Stage IV, Grade A, B, C depending on the severity, risk of decline and systemic risk factors.
Periodontal Therapy includes 2-6 sessions of scaling and root planing with a combination of laser & ozone to treat the affected areas. This treatment isn’t unique to NDH, it is the standard of practice for a dental hygienist.
After the therapies are complete, we allow the mouth and body to heal for a period of 4-6 weeks and reassess the areas that were treated. At this time your Dental Hygienist will recommend a periodontal maintenance interval and treatment plan.
NDH has solutions to both STOP and PREVENT future cavities and gingivitis from developing. We take a proactive not reactive approach to our recommendations both in-office and at home. We have multiple plans to help our littlest clients achieve good oral health and wellness. We strive to minimize the spread of dental disease in our youth.
It’s WELL documented that children have a high instance of tooth decay that can require extensive and expensive treatment not to mention can be traumatic and cause several dental phobias. It’s common to see children with stainless steel crowns, root canal therapy, early extractions, and large restorations.
Children can have sensitive teeth, infection and severe pain that can be prevented.
At NDH, we love educating parents about their options and guiding them to healthier choices for their children.
Our dental hygienists’ use visual, tacktile and light (Velscope) to determine if an area in the oral cavity needs further investigation with a specialist. We provide detailed notes and descriptions as well as images to ensure we are giving you the best possible care. Some clients need biopsy and further treatment. Others are given follow up instructions and asked to return on a regular basis to monitor.
Sealants are an application applied to the biting surfaces of 20 different teeth in the oral cavity. There is NO cutting of tooth structure involved in the placement.
Step 1: Heat scanner to determine health, numbers between 0-20 are strong and healthy,
Step 2: Clean & wash the tooth surfaces,
Step 3: apply the white sealant material into the crevices,
Step 4: use a blue light to harden the material into the crevices. Dental Hygienists suggest sealing teeth 4-8 in each quadrant.
NOTE: This application doesn’t 100% prevent cavities- it’s important to maintain regular dental hygiene cleanings, practice good self care, reduce sugar intake and maintain a good healthy diet.
Fluoride can be applied to the tooth surfaces after a dental hygiene cleaning. Dental Hygienists recommend fluoride for the following reasons. Sensitivity, root exposure, weak tooth structure, moderate-high risk of cavities, poor nutrition/diet, high sugar intake, and general prevention. We respect the individual decisions of our clients. Those who are FLUORIDE FREE are welcomed and encouraged in our facility.
There are two types of “oral stains” intrinsic (inside the tooth) and extrinsic (outside of the tooth).
Intrinsic stains can only be removed with peroxide (teeth lightening/brightening procedures).
Extrinsic stains are caused by multiple factors; coffee, tea, red wine, iron/copper, heavy bacteria, tobacco/alcohol/marijuana consumption, among other factors. Stains can range from black, brown, orange, green and yellow. Extrinsic stains are removed easily with powders/pastes and either high pressure water/air or rotary mechanisms.
A therapeutic polish is recommended for several reasons: poor self-care, risk for tooth decay, tooth sensitivity, root exposure (recession), and general cleanliness (client-specific).
